So, I’ve just returned home for the weekend after spending
my first week at university. I moved in on
Sunday and it was…interesting to say the least. Numerous bottles of Dettol and
a bottle of bleach later and the house was just about habitable! When we
arrived there was so much dirt and dust and hairs everywhere. The worst part?
VOMIT ON THE BANISTER!!! We actually couldn’t believe how dirty the flat was
when we arrived considering it was supposed to be clean for us arriving. A
complaint will definitely have to be made! ! Enjoy this picture of me trying to
clean the shower before bed:
I requested to live with my friend, Lauren, but we didn’t
know the other girl, Hayley, who was supposed to be living with us. We had
talked to her on Facebook, but that’s not the same as meeting someone in real
life, is it? I was quite apprehensive about meeting her as I wasn’t sure what
she was like or whether or not we’d get along, but thankfully she’s lovely and
we all get on really well, which is good considering we’ll be living with each
other for the next year! We’ve also made friends with a girl called Sophie in
one of the flats near us. She’s also lovely and is practically like another
housemate to us – she’s even been added to our flats group chat. I feel like I’ve
known both Hayley and Sophie for years because of how easy it was to get along
with them. Our first night in the house we cooked dinner together and it was really good if I do say so myself.
It's definitely strange for me, moving from a house with 7
people in it to one with only 3 (or 4)! It’s also strange going from
sharing a bedroom with my older sister to having my own room. It's makes it
worse that when I go home on the weekends my sister won't even be at home
because she usually stays at her fiancés house, so I'll barely see her.
My first
night in the house I didn't get too much sleep. I didn't fall asleep until after
3 and then woke up around 6; the rest of the week it wasn’t much better. Some
of it was down to nerves, some of it was down to the uncomfortable mattress,
and some of it was down to our noisy neighbours who were partying well into the
wee hours of the morning.
My first
proper day at uni I was pretty nervous but I travelled to the uni with my
housemates and met up with some friends from school as well which made me feel
a bit better knowing I had some familiar faces with me. I really didn't have
anything to be nervous about though. I got talking to some lovely people who
were doing my course and the lecturers were all really down to earth and funny
as well. I’m quite excited to start my course now!
I’ve had a
really fun week at uni, doing something every day/night with my flatmates (that
includes Sophie haha) and a few of my friends from school. On Sunday night we
had a few drinks in our flat and a chat to get to know each other, on Monday night
we went to the students union for the Fresher’s Launch Party, Tuesday during
the day we took part in a treasure hunt run by the students union, Tuesday
night we went to the cinema to see Bridget Jones’ Baby (review coming soon!)
and on Wednesday night we had a few people over for pre-drinks before going to
a fresher’s party at a nightclub. We stayed in the ‘farmers bar’ section of the
nightclub (not it’s actual name of course, but we nicknamed it because it had
country music and was filled with farmers) most of the night; it was much
better craic and we enjoyed it more than the main part of the nightclub, which played rave music, because most of us are country gals. Afterwards, the people we had
over for pre-drinks (who I didn’t actually know very well as we’d only met them
the day before!) came back to ours and we had a few more drinks and a bit of a
laugh. It was a really great night, one of the best I’ve had in a while
actually! On Thursday, my best friend Lauren and friend Rebecca came to visit us and the cuties brought us some snacks and flowers for the flat! Of course we didn't have a vase so we embraced the uni life and used a bottle hahah.
My first
week has been a great experience and, despite my initial nervousness and little
bit of homesickness, I had so much fun and I can’t wait for this year.
Although, that could change once classes start and the assignments start
rolling in.
Have you started uni, school or sixth form this september?

It's a shame your new house was such a mess! sounds like you still made a great start though... I'm actually in the process of applying for University myself x
