All The Bright Places | Book Review

"Theodore Finch wants to take his own life. Violet Markey is devastated by her sister's death. They meet on the ledge of the school bell tower, and so their story begins. It's only together they can be themselves...But, as Violet's world grows, Finch's begins to shrink. How far will Violet go to save the boy she has come to love?"

‘All the bright places’ is a captivating novel by Jennifer Niven which tells the story of Theodore Finch and Violet Markey.  It's one of those books that you just have to stay up until four in the morning reading because you just can't put it down. The whole book is an emotional roller coaster to be honest; one minute I was laughing and the next I was crying!

Both characters are very likeable and you feel that you can empathise with them. I love how this book is told from the point of view of both Violet and Finch as it gives an insight into both of the characters thoughts and feelings throughout. It’s beautifully written, and really makes you think.

This is a very poignant novel, which I feel has a vast amount of relevance today. There are many people in the world who suffer from mental illness and this novel is perfect for raising awareness of mental illness. One thing that I like about this book, other than the story itself obviously, is the list of suicide helplines in different countries. I think it was a great idea for the author to include this at the back for those who may be thinking of suicide and need someone to talk to.

If you’re a fan of John Green, I would recommend that you read this novel as the writing style is quite similar to that of his. Finch is wonderfully weird, and as much as I love Augustus Waters, I think Finch is one of my new favourite literary characters.

"You are all the colours in one, at full brightness." - Finch

Music Monday | Top 5 Songs of the Week - 07/09/15

It's been quite a while since I've written a Music Monday post - a month to be exact! Here are 5 songs that I've been loving recently!

1. Cool For The Summer - Demi Lovato
"Take me down into your paradise, don't be scared 'cause I'm your body type."
Even though summer has come and gone, this song is one of the things that is keeping the summer vibe alive. It's a really upbeat song that just screams summer! I wish it would've been released a bit earlier in the UK though because this song definitely would've been my summer song this year!

2. Fight Song - Rachel Platten
"And I don't really care if nobody else believes, 'cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me."
This song incredibly inspirational and it has such a positive, powerful message to believe in yourself. This song is really catchy and impossible not to like. It's easy to see why this song was at the top of the charts.

3. Missing You - All Time Low
"Don't lose your fight kid, it only takes a little push to pull on through, with so much left to do, you'll be missing out and we'll be missing you."
I feel like most of my Music Monday posts include an ATL song...Oh well! I love this song so much and it's one of my favourite songs from the album, Future Hearts. I feel like it's one of those songs that could resonate with so many people today rather than songs about sex and drugs which a lot of songs seem to be about these days; people can feel reassured and that there is hope when they listen to it, and I think that's one of the things I love so much about it.

4. Adventure Time - (Bri)Bry
"If I lose my Irish charm, when there's grandkids hanging off my arm, we'll go on an adventure and relive history."
If you read this post about Belsonic, you'll know that I saw the Irish singer/youtuber perform some of his songs, including this one. I really liked all of the songs that he performed, but Adventure Time has to be my favourite. I've had it on repeat since Belsonic if I'm being completely honest with you. It's too good not to!

5. Wildest Dreams - Taylor Swift
"He's so tall and handsome as hell, he's so bad but he does it so well."
I am so so so happy that this song is Taylor's next single! As I think I've mentioned in one of my previous Music Monday posts, this is my favourite song from her album and I can't stop listening to it. I love the old Hollywood glamour style of this video and Taylor looks stunning (as usual). Also, Scott Eastwood is a nice edition to this video as he is gorgeous ;)

August Favourites

Summer has come and passed so quickly this year! Where did the time go? Anyway, here are some of the things I loved throughout August.

  • Maybelline Eraser Eye Concealer - At the beginning of the month I ran out of concealer and rather than re-purchasing my good old faithful collection concealer, I thought I would try something new! I had been seeing a lot of youtubers and bloggers raving about this concealer, so I thought why not give it a go? I now know why they all love it so much; it conceals my dark circles whilst still feeling light and leaving a flawless finish.

  • Maybelline Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara - I think I've mentioned once before that I'm very picky when it comes to mascara and I don't try new ones that often, but I really wanted to try the Lash Sensational mascara. I love this mascara! It multiplies the appearance of my lashes and makes them appear longer, without clumping! The applicator is the perfect size and shape to cover all of my lashes as well.

  • Maybelline The Nudes Palette - Yet another Maybelline product! One thing that my makeup bag lacks, or rather lacked, was a good eyeshadow palette. Maybelline products were on offer at the time (as you can probably tell) so I decided to pick up The Nudes palette. I love how similar the colours in this palette are to those in the Naked palette. It's a great mix of matte and shimmery colours so that you can create many different eye looks for the day right through to the night. My favourite look to wear, using the palette, is a gold smokey eye as it makes my blue eyes pop!

  • OGX Weightless Hydration Coconut Water Conditioner - Throughout August I used this conditioner after my usual shampoo and noticed quite a bit of difference in my hair. The ends of my hair tend to be quite dry and dull because of blonde dip dye. Since using this my hair has felt hydrated, silky smooth and it's significantly shinier as well! Also, it smells of coconut, which I love the smell of.

What were you loving in August?
