Pitta Pocket Pizza


Since starting uni almost a month ago now, I've learnt a few things about cooking my own meals: 

1. You want to make the cheapest possible meals. 

2. You can't really be bothered to make meals when you get in from a long day of lectures and seminars.

3. You consider ordering takeouts all the time (especially when you get student discounts).

One thing I've practically been living off is pitta pocket pizzas. They basically combine everything in the list above - they're cheap, easy and taste like proper pizza, but they're better for you than pizza! What more could you want? 

To make these all you need is some wholemeal pitta bread, tomato purée, meat of your choice (I usually go for ham), cheese, or anything you would normally get on a pizza. 

First of all you need to make a little pocket out of your pitta bread. A trick my sister taught me is to heat the pitta bread up for a minute or two to make it easier to cut. Then, you spread on your tomato purée and add the rest of your ingredients. To cook my pitta pocket pizzas I use a small George Foreman grill that I got for a tenner in Argos. I don't think I could live without this at uni because it can be used to cook any thing from toasties to chicken. But if you don't have one of these I'm sure a normal grill will work just fine. I usually cook my pitta pockets until the cheese has completely melted and leave them to cool for a few minutes before digging in. 

Voila! A cheap, healthy, tasty meal that anyone could make.
